About Me
Welcome to Counselor Up! I work in central office supporting 460+ school counselors in a large southern school district with the best team in town. I have been a counselor since 2003 and love working with parents, teachers, students, and other counselors. I try to be organized and proactive in my counseling program. Counselor Up is my way to share some of the ideas, organizing tools, and planning with you!
I have been district Elementary Counselor of the year, North Carolina Elementary Counselor of the year, and received my National Board Certification in 2009. I have served on the executive board of NCSCA and the NCDPI Advisory Council for the state. I have presented at the NCSCA conference, the ASCA conference, and for NCDPI. I am a lead RAMP reviewer and a Bully Specialist Certification reviewer for ASCA. My school received the RAMP (Recognized ASCA Model Program) award for comprehensive school counseling in 2008.
Along the way, I found my true passion in working for equity for all students and wrote a book, Interrupting Racism: Equity and Social Justice in School Counseling with my co-author Alicia Oglesby. I spend most of my free time writing blog posts and speaking about data, comprehensive school counseling, and equity.
I opened my Teachers Pay Teachers store in March of 2015 in order to share lessons and materials I created for my own use in my school counseling program. My philosophy here on Counselor Up is to share everything you need to recreate my ideas on your own and then share a "done for you" version over in my store.
I live in Chapel Hill, NC with my husband, daughter Zoe, and two dogs. Be sure to follow me on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram as they are the best places to find out what's going on with me. I can be reached at [email protected]. Look forward to hearing from you!
