The New Digs

As I transition into my new role of Counselor Coordinator, I am getting settled into cubicle land. Going from my own space (with a window!) to a shared space with lots of beige has not been without challenges. Challenge numero uno? Make this space a happy place to work.

Here's my before picture. Sigh.

On the plus side, my cubicle is *big* like almost as big as my office in my school was. Where I had children. And an intern. So we have that going for me. But, really, that beige. It's almost too much.

I found some great websites where you can download cute printables for free!  I had them printed for 50 cents per page at staples and hung them up around the old cube. To create a little inspiration wall above my computer, I covered an old silver frame with gold washi tape, took out the glass to make it lighter and hung it on my cubicle wall.

Please excuse the "birthday interview" in the original frame. I recycle.

At the portion of my desk where I work most, I put up a little gallery wall with some of the things that inspire me: my kid, a picture of me with a special student, some quotes and some things for looks like a beaded frame that has a thank you note from a colleague in it. I also bought an inexpensive lamp to brighten up the space. It's a nice view every day!

To round out the "room," I have a chair from my old office, a small bookshelf, and nice baskets to hide the clutter. Now this is a place that I can work every day!

What do you do to make your space your own? For so many years, I've shared my space with children, teachers, parents and it feels odd to have a space all to my own.
