What You Need to Know to be Ready for #ASCA16

Picture me jumping up and down excited for #ASCA16. I have been #notatasca for several years and am excited to go back. I've been planning and getting ready so I thought I would share some tips:

Take Care of Your Comfort

You'll be on your feet a lot, wear comfortable shoes. New Orleans is hot but the air conditioning is cold so bring layers. Bring a bag that's large enough to carry what you need but is comfortable for carrying all day.

Download the App and Use it Before You Get there

You can download a conference app from ASCA that has the entire schedule, handouts, room locations, and more. One cool trick is that you can add multiple items to your schedule and then narrow it down later. So go ahead- take some time to peruse the offerings and make a few picks about the sessions that most interest you. Pro tip - you can see the handouts within the app if you need some help narrowing your choices.

Leave Room for Stuff

Souvenirs, purchases, vendor swag- there's always lots to take home from ASCA. Make sure you don't pack your luggage too full! One year I had to leave stuff behind. Yeah, it was covered in tears.

Pack for Fun Too

I'm bringing cool summer dresses to wear out at night so I can walk around New Orleans without melting (too much). I always bring a bathing suit any time I travel too. They don't take up much room and you never know when you'll need it. A few years ago when ASCA was in Dallas, there was record breaking heat and the rooftop pool was welcome after a long day.

Get Plugged In

I speak both literally and figuratively here. Bring your chargers and possibly multiple devices. Depending on your note taking preferences, you might run down the batteries on your device of choice. Figuratively - keep checking twitter for the hashtag #asca16 to keep up with what's going on and to meet up with others. My co-presenter and I met on twitter (and have never met in person)! Make sure to follow me on instagram, twitter, and facebook to see what shenanigans I find.
Comment below to let us know you're going to be there! Can't wait to see you.
